Irrigation

About Irrigation

An Irrigation system is a network of sprinkler heads connected to a computer that regulates the water that is strategically distributed throughout a yard to ensure healthy and beautiful plants. Over the course of the warmer months there are some crucial steps that must be taken to keep this system running efficiently and smoothly. These steps are as follows:

Spring Turn-On

Once it begins to get warmer in the spring, an irrigation system must be restarted after laying dormant through the winter. This involves filling the system with water, properly programming the computer and each zone according to the current weather conditions, and thoroughly examining each piece of the irrigation system to make sure no problems arose during the winter months.

Inspection

Shortly after the spring turn-on, many counties require that the backflow built into irrigation systems be inspected and approved by a certified backflow inspector. Bayard Landscapes sends a copy of this report to you and the county.

Winterization

As the season comes to an end and it begins getting colder outside, irrigation systems must be shut down and drained to avoid damage that could be caused by freezing pipes. This is done using pressurized air. Damages to irrigation systems that are not properly winterized can be quite expensive and may lead to issues in the coming season if not taken care of.
